Ryan is an award-winning singer, actor, dancer, and performance/recording artist. He currently writes the “Toronto at Night” column for Xtra, and has spent summer 2011 touring pride festivals across North America. For a year and half, he curated Granny Boots, the weekly queer themed art and politics party at the Gladstone Hotel. He was the 2010 EGALE Queering Black History Month honoree, and has also won awards and grants for Arts & Culture from the City of Toronto, the Community One foundation, the City of Mississauga, the LGBTQ Youthline, and Music Theatre Mississauga.
One of the founders of the ARTWHERK Collective!, his work combines clear themes of identity, blackness, and gender with ferocious live vocals , outrageous costuming and kinetic movement. His performances have been described as "dazzling" (Susan G. Cole, Now Magazine), "thrilling" (Robin Sharpe, BlogTo.com), and “larger than life” (Paul Gallant, The Toronto Star. Xtra has praised his “fierce theatricality” and he has been cited as "one of the hardest-working queer artists in Toronto" in fab magazine.
Ryan has appeared multiple times on the covers of Xtra, No More Potlucks, and Trade and has been seen nationally on everything from MTV News to The Camilla Scott Show.
